CVMC Prepares & Responds to Increasing COVID Cases

With COVID-19 cases on the rise in our region, Carson Valley Medical Center (CVMC) has put in place plans and precautions to continue to care for our community and keep our patients, our staff, and the general public safe.

At this time, based on the number of patients hospitalized with COVID-19 and the normal seasonal illness fluctuations, CVMC has deployed the Hospital Incident Command System to address the high number of patients needing care. This system allows CVMC to expand care into alternate locations for our patients and make operational updates to best address the needs of our community as the situation changes.

The following health and safety measures are in place at Carson Valley Medical Center:

  • Masks are mandatory for all patients and everyone entering a CVMC facility will be temperature checked and screened.

  • No visitors will be allowed at a CVMC facility to reduce potential exposures to infectious viruses. Exceptions are allowed for extenuating circumstances such as a parent with a pediatric patient.

  • CVMC’s COVID clinic continues to offer COVID PCR testing Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm by appointment (call 775-782-1508). This clinic offers testing for symptomatic patients or those with exposure to a positive COVID patient. Asymptomatic test requests will be referred to the public health department.

  • Many administrative and support services are operating remotely including Customer Service/Business Office - please call ahead (775-782-1625) if you need billing assistance or medical records.

At this time, no CVMC medical services have been reduced. Currently surgery, diagnostic imaging, outpatient services, and clinics are operating as usual.

CARSON VALLEY MEDICAL CENTER CARES FOR YOU - SAFELY

GARDNERVILLE, Nev. (5/6/20) -- We've Missed You! As the community slowly starts reopening stores and services, here at CVMC we are also beginning to open our schedules for the medical services that you might have put on hold during the stay-at-home recommendation.

Precautions CVMC is taking for your safety include:

  • Staggered and expanded scheduling of primary care and outpatient services to reduce the amount of patients in any area, clinic or department.

  • Setting up waiting rooms for optimal social distancing

  • Asking all patients and visitors to wear a cloth mask or surgical mask if they are displaying respiratory symptoms. These items are available at our entrances if needed.

  • CVMC staff is screening everyone coming into a CVMC facility and will redirect potential infectious patients away from others as appropriate for their medical needs.

  • All non-emergency surgical patients will be tested for COVID-19 prior to their procedure and asked to self-isolate for a period of time prior to their surgery.

  • Visitor limitations are still in place. CVMC staff can discuss options with you to communicate and connect with your loved ones while at CVMC. Exceptions will be made for extenuating circumstances.

  • Virtual visits are still available for some primary care and behavioral health services - call ahead before your appointment to ask about these options.

We are so proud of our community for modifying their behaviors and actions to best protect our community-at-large and are happy to begin to offer some of the non-emergency yet still essential medical services that we know our community relies on us to provide.

Carson Valley Medical Center is a non-profit medical facility that provides acute and ICU care, surgery, 24-hour emergency services, and outpatient services. A partnership of Barton Health and Renown Health, Carson Valley Medical Center’s mission is to care for the health and wellness of the Carson Valley. For more information visit www.cvmchospital.org.

COVID-19 Impacts on Local Healthcare Systems

GARDNERVILLE, Nev. (4/14/20) -- At Carson Valley Medical Center, we first and
foremost thank the residents of the Carson Valley for adhering to stay-at-home
recommendations and social distancing, which we believe contributes to the low
prevalence of cases here in the Carson Valley area so far.

“Even though confirmed cases in our area have been low, we know by watching the trends in other communities that a surge of patients is possible. We have plans underway to expand the available beds at CVMC at the point that this is necessary” explains CVMC Chief Executive Officer Jeff Prater. CVMC is licensed as a 23-bed critical access hospital; yet in times of emergency, we can expand that capacity to many times over that. “We are continually monitoring and securing additional supplies that would be needed for an increase in COVID-19 patients. We are also working closely with our regional partners and other regional healthcare providers to ensure the best regional response to this situation” adds Prater.

CVMC offers a screening clinic where patients with respiratory symptoms and other prevalent factors are able to be tested for COVID-19. We ask that patients concerned about their symptoms should call 775-782-1508 for further information and direction.

CVMC’s Director of Operations Shannon Albert noted the amazing response from
community members looking to help. “Local residents and business partners have been so gracious with their donations of supplies and support and now more than ever it's clear that we are in this together as a community.” CVMC has received supplies of personal protective equipment (PPE), other supplies, and food from local restaurants to help keep our healthcare workers spirits up during this trying time.

CVMC does not share or disclose information about patients conditions or other related information to protect patient privacy, community members are encouraged to visit https://gethealthycarsoncity.org/ to stay up to date on current county statistics for active, total, and recovered cases in Douglas County.

Carson Valley Medical Center has opened a screening clinic for patients concerned about their risk for COVID-19 and who meet the CDC criteria for testing. We are asking community members to call ahead to the COVID-19 Screening Clinic to get a phone pre-screening completed. Once that is done, patients will be directed to the appropriate location.

You can reach the COVID-19 Screening Clinic at 775-782-1508; the clinic will operate Monday - Friday from 8am to 5pm. CVMC is monitoring this continually changing situation and will update our community as needed.

We thank you for your help in keeping our community healthy.
